Gipsy Kings by Diego Baliardo

Gipsy Kings by Diego Baliardo, a co-founder of the original GIPSY KINGS®, continues to carry the torch of a global musical phenomenon, performing alongside the newest generation of the Baliardo family. As true heirs of flamenco and descendants of the legendary guitar "godfather" Manitas de Plata (Ricardo Baliardo), Diego and his group remain the eternal ambassadors of the mesmerizing gypsy tradition.

The original group's extraordinary journey was catalyzed in 1978 when Brigitte Bardot, Saint-Tropez’s most famous resident, discovered the family’s raw talent and invited them to perform at a private party. This pivotal moment propelled Diego and the original group into the inner circles of the international elite on the Côte d’Azur, setting the stage for their worldwide rise to fame. Mainstream success soon followed with timeless hits such as Bamboleo and Djobi Djoba, making them the first-ever gypsy group to earn a Gold Record in the United States. Over a career spanning more than 40 years, Diego has been a visionary driving force behind classics like Baila Me and their flamboyant covers of standards such as Volare, Hotel California, and their iconic adaptation of My Way, titled A mi manera.

With over 20 million albums sold, the original group’s crowning achievement came at the 56th Grammy Awards, where they won the Grammy for Best World Music Album for Savor Flamenco. To date, the group holds the record for the most nominations in the World Music category, with a total of eight.

Today, Gipsy Kings by Diego Baliardo continues to deliver the incomparable sound that built their legend: a powerful rhythm section and sophisticated arrangements for six guitars. By infusing modern flamenco with Catalan rumba, they preserve the pure artistic heritage of their family, ensuring that the sun-drenched spirit of Provence and the warmth of the Camargue continue to shine across generations.
