Amira Medunjanin, often called the Bosnian Billie Holiday, is one of the most significant and celebrated interpreters of sevdah from this region, and she is returning to Herceg Novi for another concert destined to be remembered. On August 2, on the most beautiful open-air stage on the Adriatic, the legendary Kanli Kula, as part of the 20th Anniversary Guitar Art Summer Fest, audiences will be treated to a very special musical experience – an evening of magic and pure emotion. Tickets are available through Herceg Fest and the online ticketing platform tickets.rs.

Amira Medunjanin

From the very beginning of her career, Amira Medunjanin (Sarajevo, April 23, 1972) has sought an authentic approach to interpreting and presenting the traditional music of South-Eastern Europe, focusing on the segment of our art viewed through the lens of the modern world that surrounds us. Music journalist Garth Cartwright has dubbed her the "Bosnian Billie Holiday," drawing a parallel with the way she plays with sevdah, finding new context and form within a tradition spanning hundreds of years.

Her fascination with the beauty of the region's oral tradition led her to dedicate herself to creating a specific artistic expression that eschews musical trends and avoids compromises to fit existing musical molds. Through collaborations with professional ensembles and numerous concerts, she successfully promotes Balkan culture and traditional music on the global World Music scene. Her excellent command of the English language has further facilitated the presentation of this unique concept in Western Europe and beyond.

Among other accolades, she is the recipient of the prestigious "La plus belle voix feminine 2012" (Best Female Vocal 2012) awarded by the Orange Foundation at the Babel Med Music festival in Marseille. She is also a winner of the "PORIN" award for Best Female Vocal Performance in 2020 and Best World Music Album in 2021.

She was a guest artist on the album Bal-Kan: Honey and Blood by the renowned Catalan musician Jordi Savall, with whom she actively collaborates and performs worldwide. Over the past 20 years, she has independently released eleven recordings encompassing the musical heritage of Bosnia and Herzegovina with a regional perspective.
