“It will be a great night in Herceg Novi,” says Bryan Adams ahead of his first visit to Montenegro, where on 26 June, at the Kanli Kula Fortress, he will open the 20th jubilee Guitar Art Summer Fest (GASF).

In an interview for the GASF portal, the legendary musician talks about his expectations of meeting the local audience, the concept of the “Bare Bones” tour, and a career spanning more than four decades.

Bryan Adams' concert in Herceg Novi is one of the most anticipated music events in the region. An evening with the global star will mark the start of the 20th jubilee edition of GASF and symbolically herald a rich Herceg Novi cultural summer.

The artist, whose songs have defined generations worldwide, comes before the audience at Kanli Kula with his “Bare Bones” programme, an intimate concert format that prioritises emotion and direct communication.
Ahead of his arrival in Herceg Novi, Bryan Adams spoke to the GASF portal about his first encounter with Montenegro, his long career, his inspiration, and the special connection he has built with audiences over the years.

When asked what this concert, his first encounter with Montenegro and Herceg Novi, means to him, Adams replies briefly:
- It is very exciting to come to a new place. I have high expectations, it will be a great night in Herceg Novi.

Your tour is called “Bare Bones”, what is the concept and how does it differ from your previous concerts?
- The “Bare Bones” concerts are shows I perform on my own while the band takes a break. I've been doing them occasionally for several decades now. I think they make me a better musician.

How would you describe the difference between today's audiences worldwide and the audience from the beginning of your career?
- It's hard to compare them at all, because every decade has brought a different audience. The beginnings were very tough because back then I didn't have the repertoire I have today.

What can the audience in Herceg Novi expect from your performance on this tour?
- Everything is focused on the songs and presenting them in a simple way - how they were created and how they work, equally well with the band and in the “Bare Bones” version.

Is there a song from your rich repertoire that holds a special place in your heart, or which you feel best represents your musical journey?
- I get asked that question a lot, and I'm glad I don't have such a song, because that would be quite boring. I love that every song of mine led to the next. If it weren't for one, I wouldn't have written the one that came after it.

You are known for energetic and memorable live performances, even after all these years. What is the secret to maintaining such energy on stage?
- I'm not sure... maybe lentils?

How important is the connection with the audience during a concert to you, and how does it affect your performance?
- You know the old saying - if there is no audience, there is no concert!

How do you manage to keep your sound fresh and relevant, while staying true to your style for multiple generations of audiences?
- I try to keep things simple, stick to what I know best, and constantly learn. The musical scale has a specific number of notes, but from them, an infinite number of melodies can be born!

Do you have any personal rituals or habits before going on stage that help you prepare?
- Usually, I just boil some water and have a cup of tea.

Which moment or experience from your career so far stands out, and what are you looking forward to most in the future?
- That's easy - the opportunity to pay rent thanks to the music I create. Is there anything better than that? You just have to keep going and deal with all the challenges that life brings.

From rock anthems to an intimate concert evening

With a career spanning over four decades, tens of millions of albums sold, and timeless hits that have become part of collective musical heritage, Bryan Adams remains one of the most beloved performers on the global music scene.

Because of this, but also due to the communicativeness and simplicity he nurtures, his first concert in Montenegro is an event of special importance, both for the local audience and for the guests of Herceg Novi.

On the unique stage at Kanli Kula, in the setting of one of the most beautiful Mediterranean towns, at the entrance to what is officially one of the most beautiful bays in the world, a musical magic to remember and the beginning of another unforgettable Herceg Novi cultural summer awaits the audience on 26 June.
